Alleged Toronto Mayor Rob Ford video inspires video game
By Matt Hartley
The crack video scandal involving Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has spawned a new video game.
In Stay Mayor, players are tasked with keeping the Mayor of Toronto in office, as he dodges the media and crack pipes in an effort to collect enough money to buy an alleged video of said mayor smoking crack before “The Gawker” does.
The game was produced by Toronto’s Extra Extra Games, and is available as a free download for Android smartphones and tablets in the Google Play store.
The game draws attention back to allegations that Mayor Ford was captured on video allegedly smoking from a crack pipe. Mr. Ford denies a video exists and says he does not smoke crack. The National Post has not seen the alleged video.
According to Extra Extra Games co-founder Ben McEvoy, Stay Mayor is as much a work of political commentary as it is a video game. It was created over the span of two weeks and was quietly released about two weeks ago.
Stay Mayor is something of a trial balloon for the developers, to see if the team can quickly churn out games based on current events.
