Culture is king in Sid Meier’s Civilization V: Brave New World

By Chad Sapieha

The Zulus succumbed to my civilization’s culture early, the pull of Polish blue jeans and pop music proving too much for its proud people to resist.

I was off to a good start earning one of Sid Meier’s Civilization V: Brave New World‘s re-imagined Culture Victories, which go beyond merely tallying the social policies players earn, as was the case previously. New conditions track an original resource called tourism, which acts as a gauge for your civ’s influence over the people of other nations. Your goal is to generate as much tourism as possible in order to make the world bow to your nation’s cultural power.

You know how Hollywood and American music has helped transport U.S. culture and values around the globe? Basically the same thing here, just with the likes of Handel and Rembrandt taking the place of Lindsay Lohan and Chris Brown.
